People in the West, and some in other parts of the world, are already used to having wine as a complement to their meals. But not all wines can make every meal extra delectable the way a Sauvignon Blanc does. Grown originally in Bordeaux, France, the Sauvignon Blanc is a wild green grape that is recognized for bringing forth only the most refreshing dry white wine. Today the grape variety is raised in many countries, save for France, like Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Brazil, South Africa, and in California's Napa and Sonoma Coutnies.

The very grassy and tropical grape variety made it's way to Australia and New Zealand in the 1830s, while cuttings from Sauternes (a well-known wine region in France) was brought to California in the 1880s. Today, its wine produce is highly favored around the world for its invigorating taste. It is better to take the Sauvignon Blanc young, for it loses its appeal when aged. It's noted for it's fruity and herbaceous acidity with tasting notes such as grass (lemongrass or gooseberry); fruits (lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach, and melon); and vegetable notes (jalapeno, bell pepper, green olive, and chive). The best of the Sauv Blanc wines also have a long lasting taste, including that of vanilla.

Growing the Sauv Blanc is better off close to massive bodies of water. It is also best drunk with sushi and other low fat fish. It also matches well with cheeses, vegetable appetizers, and garden salads. Cold soups, bread, and light pasta are also fairly complimented by this kind of wine. So if you're having a garden party, a picnic, a Sunday brunch, an afternoon wedding, a seafood fiesta, or any intimate occasion in an open environment that calls for fresh and classy taste, then you know the Sauvignon Blanc would be perfect for it.

Sauvignon Blanc wine happens to be one of the wine varieties that needs to be drunk young, as aging does not really do it any good.
